SEO & Growth · Perth
Most Perth businesses do not serve Perth. They serve a catchment that runs from Kinross to Blairgowrie and well up into Highland Perthshire. That changes what search work is worth doing — and makes the usual "a page per town" answer more dangerous here than almost anywhere.
The geography problem
It is one of the largest council areas in Scotland by land, and one of the more sparsely populated. Almost every search decision follows from that.
A plumber in Edinburgh competes with fifty others inside a ten-minute drive. A plumber near Aberfeldy may be the only realistic option for miles — and still lose the enquiry, because the customer searched and found somebody in Perth with a better website.
That is the shape of the opportunity here. Competition per search is often lower than in the Central Belt, so the technical and content basics go further. But the distances are real: being the best answer for Perth itself tells you very little about whether you appear for someone in Pitlochry, and proximity to the searcher is the one ranking factor that does not respond to any amount of work.
The result is that "SEO Perth" is usually the wrong brief. What a business here actually needs is to be found reliably across a defined coverage area, by people who have already accepted they may need to bring someone in from a distance.
The tempting mistake
This is the single most common thing sold to rural service businesses, and the one most likely to do damage.
The same page, regenerated with the place name swapped. Cheap to produce, impressive-looking as a deliverable, and increasingly easy for a search engine to identify.
Depth on what you do, clarity on where you do it, and a separate page only where a place genuinely has something different to say.
Before we let any location page carry index, follow, it has to clear a ten-point bar — genuine search intent, unique value against its neighbours, real depth, claims traceable to something real, deliberate metadata, and actual usefulness to a human reader. Pages that do not clear it stay unbuilt or stay out of the index. The rule we hold hardest is the one most tempting to break: never invent content to make a page eligible. It is set out in full in why you rank in your own town but not the next one.
Intent
Lower volume than the city equivalents, and considerably more likely to turn into a job.

Tourism, agriculture and weather all move demand in Perthshire in ways they do not in a city. Work that goes live in November for a business whose season starts in March has had no chance to prove itself by the time anyone judges it. It is worth agreeing up front what the honest measurement window is, rather than reviewing results at the bottom of your own trough.
The work
Before any content decision: which parts of the catchment already produce customers, which you would like more of, and how far you will actually travel. Most of the useful strategy is decided in this conversation rather than in a keyword tool.
Speed, indexation, mobile rendering and structured data. In a less contested market this alone frequently moves things, because a fair number of competitors have not done it. Our free audit will show you where you stand.
A significant share of Perthshire searches happen on a mobile connection that is not good. A page weighing several megabytes does not fail gracefully there — it simply loses the enquiry to whoever loaded first. This is a commercial decision, not a technical nicety.
The website, the Business Profile service areas and the structured data should all say the same true thing about where you work. Inconsistency here is common and quietly costly.
Depth on the services that are distinctive to rural Perthshire, and a location page only where a place clears the standard above. Fewer, better pages, every time.
If you are on a roof in Glen Lyon, you are not answering the phone. An enquiry form that acknowledges the customer immediately and notifies you properly is worth more here than another hundred visitors — see business automation.
Search Console and analytics set up in your name, read against the season rather than the calendar month, and judged on enquiries rather than on impressions.
