SEO & Growth · Fife
Central Systems is based in Leslie, near Glenrothes. We do SEO for Fife businesses the honest way: fix what is structurally holding the site back, earn relevance in the towns you can realistically win, and measure it against enquiries rather than against a ranking screenshot.
The thing most proposals skip
It is the single most useful fact about SEO in Fife, and it is the one most quotes quietly ignore.
Most counties have a centre. Fife has a handful of towns of genuine size with real distance between them, and no single one that the others orbit. Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy are each large enough to be their own market. St Andrews behaves differently again, because a substantial part of its demand arrives from outside and leaves. Glenrothes sits in the middle of all of it.
For search, that matters more than it sounds. Someone in Dunfermline searching for a tradesperson is not shown the same set of businesses as someone in Leven doing the identical search. Ranking well in your own town tells you very little about whether you appear twenty miles away — and twenty miles in Fife can mean crossing between two markets that barely overlap.
So "SEO Fife" is rarely the right target. The useful question is which of these towns you actually want work from, whether you can realistically compete there, and what the site has to look like to stand a chance. That is a different conversation from "we will get you ranking in Fife", and a considerably more productive one.
How local ranking actually works
Google publishes this, which is worth knowing, because a lot of SEO sales patter depends on it sounding mysterious.
How well your site and profile match what someone actually searched for. This responds directly to what you publish, how the site is structured, and how clearly it names what you do and where you do it.
Google: "how well a Business Profile matches what someone is searching for"How far you are from the person searching. No amount of content changes where your premises are. A business actually in Dunfermline will always have this advantage over one in Leven, for a Dunfermline searcher.
Google: "how far each business is from the customer who's searching"How well known the business is — reputation, reviews, citations, coverage, and being genuinely established. Slower to shift than relevance, but it is the factor that carries you beyond your immediate doorstep.
Google: "how well-known a business is"Two of the three respond to work. Distance does not respond to anything. Any proposal that promises you first place in a town you are nowhere near is either misunderstanding its own service or relying on you not checking — and Google states plainly that there is "no way to request or pay for a better local ranking". We would rather tell you which towns are realistically winnable and spend the budget there. We have written about this at length in why you rank in your own town but not the next one.
The work itself
Not a retainer that produces a monthly report. A sequence with a point at which each part is finished.
Crawl the site properly: what is indexable, what is duplicated, what is slow, what is broken on a phone, what returns the wrong status code. A surprising share of "we do not rank" turns out to be something mechanical. You can start this yourself with our free website audit before speaking to anyone.
Core Web Vitals, mobile rendering, crawlability, internal linking, canonical and indexation problems, and structured data that is actually true. This is unglamorous and it is usually where the first real movement comes from.
One strong page per service, organised so that a searcher and a crawler can both tell what you do and where. Where genuine service areas need their own page, they earn it on content — not on a template with the town name swapped.
For a local business this often matters more than the website. Correct categories, accurate service areas, real photographs, complete information, and a workable habit of asking satisfied customers for reviews. Reviews feed prominence, which is one of the two factors you can move.
Aimed at questions customers genuinely have, not at a keyword-density target. It is the same material that makes your business understandable to AI-assisted search, because both are reading for meaning rather than repetition.
Ranking is not the outcome — an enquiry you can act on is. Where it helps, we connect the site to automated follow-up and a CRM, so the traffic you worked for does not sit unanswered in an inbox overnight.
Search Console and analytics set up so you can see which queries bring people who convert, not just which bring people. Then keep improving the pages that are close rather than starting new ones.
Choosing the target
"SEO Fife" style head terms look like the prize. In practice the commercially valuable searches are more specific, and considerably easier to compete for.

Clear, well-structured, genuinely informative content helps a business be understood and cited by AI-assisted search as well as by a conventional results page. That is a statement about mechanism. Nobody — including us — can promise placement, citation or visibility in any AI system, and anyone offering to is selling something they do not control.
Why the two jobs are one job
A great deal of what an SEO retainer spends its first six months on is undoing decisions made during the build. If the site is being rebuilt anyway, the cheapest SEO you will ever buy is getting the architecture right the first time.
How services are split, what gets its own page, how they link to each other. Changing it later means redirects, lost equity and a period of instability you could simply have avoided.
You can optimise images on an existing site. You cannot easily undo a page builder stacking six hundred kilobytes of unused CSS on every request. What actually makes a website slow goes into this properly.
Most of the damage we get called in to repair was done by a rebuild that changed every URL without a redirect map. Our redesign work treats preserving existing search equity as a requirement of the project, not an afterthought.
Doubling the traffic to a page that does not convert doubles nothing. The enquiry route, the form, and what happens in the hour afterwards are part of the same piece of work.
